  1. v1.0.60 Latest

Searchable AI history and turn reviews

Find anything from past AI conversations, review every file an agent changed, and let agents work with S3 and SQL under your approval.

    Added

    • Search your AI conversation history in full text, with filters and highlighted snippets; opening a result jumps straight to that prompt.
    • See which files each agent turn changed, and review them in a multi-file diff viewer right from the chat.
    • A built-in diff viewer for agent edits, side by side or unified, with word-level highlights.
    • Agents can now work with S3 storage: list buckets, browse, read, write and copy objects.
    • Agents can now explore SQL databases: list and describe tables, read rows and run queries with size and time limits.

    Improved

    • Agents without their own launch profile use a built-in Default profile.
    • Update checks run seconds after startup instead of minutes later.
    • The portable macOS ZIP ships again beside the notarized DMG, and Homebrew users get each release through brew install --cask nuclrdev/tap/nuclr-commander.
    • The chat attach button now sits next to Send.

    Safety

    • The Approve dialog shows commands, scripts and SQL in their own syntax-highlighted blocks, so you can see exactly what an agent wants to run.
    • Replacing an S3 object asks you first and shows a diff for text; S3 keys and database passwords are never handed to agents.
    • Uninstalling on Windows keeps your settings unless you choose to delete them.
    • The EULA and privacy notice now name the licensor, so you will be asked to accept the EULA again on first start.
  2. v1.0.59

Notarized macOS DMG and Commander tools for AI agents

Nuclr Commander now installs on macOS from a signed, notarized DMG and on Windows from a code-signed installer, and AI agents can work with your servers through Commander.

    Added

    • macOS DMG for Apple Silicon and Intel, signed and notarized by Apple: drag to Applications and open without Gatekeeper warnings.
    • AI agents (Claude Code) can use Commander tools to work with your saved servers; access ends the moment the agent stops.
    • Conversation forks in AI Projects, with context usage shown in the window title.
    • A welcome screen in AI Projects to resume local agent conversations or start a new one.
    • Net panel actions to list, read, write, copy and run commands on remote servers, with a diff before anything is overwritten.

    Improved

    • Retry button when an AI turn fails because of the network, an overloaded server or rate limits.
    • Syntax highlighting for more file types in the text editor.
    • Restored agent windows always come back visible, and scrolling stays put when the prompt pin toggles.

    Safety

    • The Windows installer and launcher are code-signed.
    • Native libraries bundled in the app and its plugins are signed with the Developer ID.
  3. v1.0.54

    AI agent chat upgrades

Run several AI agents side by side with a clearer chat: full-size images, timestamps, a skills catalog and an at-a-glance view of what every agent is doing.

    Added

    • Full-size image viewer in chat, with zoom and pan
    • Message timestamps and day separators
    • Page-by-page navigation through long conversations
    • A /skills catalog in a popup
    • An activity strip showing how many agents are open and working
    • Several AI projects can share the same folder
    • A "Confirm before exiting" setting, with a "Don't ask again" option

    Improved

    • Clearer Markdown and syntax-highlighted tool output
    • A settings bar above the message box for model, clear screen and new conversation
    • /clear now starts a fresh conversation and shows a session overview
    • AI desktops open faster, with a progress view while they load
  4. v1.0.53

    Searchable AI agent chats

Find and revisit anything in an agent conversation, accept suggested follow-ups with Tab, and press F1 anywhere for documentation.

    Added

    • Find bar that searches the whole agent conversation
    • Prompt index to jump back to any message you sent
    • Suggested next message in the chat composer, accepted with Tab
    • Context view showing how an agent session was launched: profile, access mode, briefing and environment, with secrets redacted
    • Images generated by Codex appear in the chat
    • F1 opens the documentation for the focused panel or plugin, plus a Help > Documentation menu item

    Improved

    • Local file paths in agent replies are clickable and open the file, including line references
    • Claude sessions keep their briefing when resumed
    • Long Blender conversions in the 3D viewer show a progress popup you can hide with Esc
    • F1 works in the text viewer
    • Clear message when Codex hits its usage limit
  5. v1.0.52

Quick View thumbnails and chat attachments

Attach files and images to AI Projects conversations and see what they hold at a glance, with thumbnails drawn by every Quick View plugin.

    Added

    • Attach files and images to AI Projects chats by pasting, dropping or picking them; each one shows as a thumbnail chip in the message box and the conversation.
    • Thumbnails for everything Quick View can show: images, PDFs, Markdown and text pages, spreadsheets, 3D models, archives, torrents, executables, compiled classes, contacts and album art.
    • Keep several workspace windows open side by side; Commander restores them on the next start.
    • Press Up and Down in an empty chat box to bring back earlier prompts, and copy any prompt you sent with one click.
    • Your latest prompt stays pinned while you scroll through a long answer, and shows when the agent is still working.
    • Launch an agent with your own shell command, such as nvm use 21 && codex.

    Improved

    • Quick View stays on the file it is showing when you change the selection in the pane behind it.
    • Commander starts faster, and closing a window now works the way each platform expects.
    • Animated chat backgrounds run more smoothly and no longer grow memory on macOS.
    • Notifications on macOS reliably appear.
  6. v1.0.51

Agent desktop notifications and clean start

AI agents notify you from the desktop, copy and move refuse unsafe targets, and a single flag gives you a fresh start.

    Added

    • Desktop toast notifications for AI agent activity.
    • A preference for the inactive animation on the AI project desktop.
    • Agent edits and file writes are shown as syntax-coloured diffs.
    • nuclr -clean starts with fresh settings while keeping your plugins, updates, logs and cache; nuclr -help lists the options. Both work from the Windows launcher.

    Improved

    • Find File follows each repository's .gitignore, including nested repositories.
    • Plugin Management now lives in the Configurations menu.
    • Pane menus are hidden on fullscreen screens instead of showing dead entries.
    • Fullscreen screens keep their own title and function-key row.

    Safety

    • Copy and move refuse to put a folder inside itself or overwrite a file with itself, and handle conflicts the same way for files, folders and links.
    • Agent output is no longer lost while an agent is starting.
    • Renaming, forgetting or deleting a project is blocked while its desktop is open.
  7. v1.0.50

    Animated project backgrounds

AI Projects now remembers your workspaces and can show animated desktop backgrounds, and the hex and text editors handle remote files more reliably.

    Added

    • Animated desktop backgrounds in AI Projects: liquid plasma, Helix Sequencer and a cinematic orrery.
    • AI Projects restores your workspaces on restart and locks open projects.

    Improved

    • Background effects pause while the window is inactive, and plasma and helix rendering is faster.
    • Project panel function keys have been remapped.
    • The hex editor checks that a remote file can be opened before trying to show it.
    • The text editor is better at telling a truly empty file from one it can't measure.
  8. v1.0.49

    AI project agent briefings

Coding agents launched from an AI project now start already briefed on its instructions, skills and files, and Windows users can open PowerShell right where they are.

    Added

    • AI Projects now ships with Commander. Coding agents such as Claude, Codex, Pi and OpenCode started from a project receive its instructions, skills, files and variables the moment they launch.
    • Link instruction and skill documents from anywhere on disk into a project, without widening the folders the project can reach.
    • Open PowerShell, or an administrator PowerShell, in the current folder on Windows. Declining the UAC prompt is handled cleanly.
    • Switch workspaces with Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab, or Cmd+Shift+] and Cmd+Shift+[ on macOS.
    • Create a new empty file from the local file panel. Names are checked and an existing file is never overwritten.

    Improved

    • Renaming a file only by case, such as readme.md to README.md, now works on case-insensitive drives.
    • Moves resolve relative targets against the source folder, a trailing slash moves the item into that folder, and moving an item onto itself does nothing instead of reporting a conflict.
    • Deleting GitHub artifacts shows progress for each item and can be cancelled part way.
    • The built-in terminal picks a font that draws block characters at full width, so banners and progress bars no longer break apart.
    • Closing the window now always exits Commander. Workspaces come back on the next launch; use Workspace > Close to discard one.
  9. v1.0.48

    Multiple workspace windows

Work in several independent workspaces at once, with plugin credentials now held in your operating system keyring.

    Added

    • Open several independent workspace windows, each with its own file panels, layout and settings, and pick up where you left off next time you start Commander.
    • Override JVM options for a particular machine in a vmoptions.txt file that Commander creates for you, with guidance, on first run.
    • Start, stop and resume many Docker containers at once from the Docker panel: commands act on your whole selection, skip containers they do not apply to, and report any failures together at the end.

    Improved

    • File panels stay responsive in large directories, with less work done on every repaint and no rebuilding of the function-key bar as you move through a listing.
    • Column headers refresh when a listing's underlying data changes, instead of occasionally showing stale ones.
    • Changing the theme now updates every open workspace, not just the one in front.
    • Quick search no longer clashes with modifier shortcuts, and split dividers restore correctly in windows that were hidden when you closed them.
    • On Windows, Commander now defaults to software rendering, avoiding display glitches on some graphics setups.

    Safety

    • Plugins that need credentials keep them in your operating system's keyring, and each plugin is confined to its own namespace, so one plugin cannot read another's secrets.
  10. v1.0.47

    Git file panel

Browse Git working trees, branches, commits, tags and stashes as ordinary file panels, and stage, commit, push or stash without leaving Commander.

    Added

    • Browse a Git repository as a file panel, opened from any directory below its root, with two-character status markers and separate views for staged, modified, untracked and conflicted files.
    • Open any branch, commit, tag or stash as a read-only directory tree and stream historical file contents without checking them out.
    • Stage, unstage, discard, commit, fetch, fast-forward pull, push, create or check out branches, and create, apply or drop stashes.
    • View working and staged diffs, commit details, file history and blame, and compare a historical file with the working-tree version.
    • Open Commander's log directory from Help -> View logs.

    Improved

    • Faster startup: plugin bundles are verified and prepared concurrently, and superseded plugin archives are skipped before verification so leftover update files no longer slow the launch.
    • ISO extraction now asks how to resolve a destination conflict, offering overwrite, skip, keep both or cancel.
    • Archive password and error dialogs anchor to the active window instead of appearing behind the application.
    • Malformed ISO entries no longer break a listing, and versioned ISO names are preserved where needed to avoid collisions.

    Safety

    • Unsupported multi-extent or non-contiguous ISO layouts are reported as unreadable instead of extracting truncated files.
    • A failed archive open closes the half-open panel before reporting the error, so a bad archive cannot leave a dead panel behind a dialog.
  11. v1.0.46

    Automatic official plugin installation

Commander now installs newly published official plugins on its own, with verification and a blacklist check that fails closed.

    Added

    • Commander now installs newly published official plugins for you, in the background, so a new panel or viewer is there the next time you start up.
    • A new Updates setting, "Install new official plugins automatically", controls this. It is on by default and can be turned off at any time.
    • Plugin Management reports what each maintenance cycle did, and offers a retry for anything that was refused.

    Improved

    • Plugins you already have are checked for updates on the same hourly cycle. Automatic installation applies only to plugins that are new to you; your existing plugins are never upgraded without you.

    Safety

    • If the plugin blacklist cannot be reached, nothing is installed at all that cycle rather than installing unchecked.
    • Bundles built against an incompatible platform SDK, or whose contents do not match their published manifest, are refused.
    • Refusals are remembered across restarts, so a rejected bundle is not retried endlessly, while transient network failures are.
  12. v1.0.45

ISO disk images and Go To Folder

Browse ISO disk images like a folder, and jump to any directory with path completion from anywhere in the app.

    Added

    • Browse ISO 9660, Rock Ridge, Joliet and UDF disk images as a read-only file panel, with no mounting and no third-party tool.
    • Jump straight to any directory with a Go To Folder dialog that completes paths as you type, reachable from anywhere in the app.
    • Navigate to the parent directory with Backspace.

    Improved

    • Double-clicking a file in the folder tree opens it instead of only selecting it.
    • Selected text is legible again in the text quick viewer and in every editor theme.
    • Platform launchers follow Java 25 JVM defaults.
  13. v1.0.44

    File tree navigation

Press Alt+F10 to open a searchable tree of your drives and folders, and jump straight to any directory instead of walking there.

    Added

    • Press Alt+F10 in a local file panel to open a file and folder tree, and jump straight to any directory instead of stepping into it one level at a time.
    • Open the tree at the folder you are already in, or walk up to Computer to see every drive and root in one place.
    • Type to search the tree, Enter to go to the selection, Backspace to move up a level, Escape to close.
    • Pick a file rather than a folder and the panel opens its parent directory with that file already selected.
    • Branches load in the background, so opening a large or slow directory leaves the dialog responsive.
    • On Linux, Ctrl+Shift+F10 opens the tree as well, because the window manager claims Alt+F10 first.

    Improved

    • The GitHub file panel is now titled "repositories", making it clearer which pane is which.
  14. v1.0.42

    Browse local Docker resources

Open containers and images like ordinary file panels, preview their contents and copy files back to the local filesystem.

    Added

    • Browse the local Docker Engine through a signed file-panel plugin.
    • Navigate running or stopped container filesystems and image filesystems without requiring a shell inside them.
    • Preview files with the usual Commander viewers and copy them into a local file panel.
    • Access Docker resource actions through the same function-key and context-menu workflow used by other panels.
  15. v1.0.41

    Local plugin sideloading

Developers can inspect and install local plugin bundles behind explicit, per-bundle safety checks.

    Added

    • Install and remove local plugin ZIPs from the plugin manager when developer mode is enabled.
    • Require the local-plugin risk warning to be accepted and each exact bundle to be approved by its SHA-256 digest before any unsigned code can load.
    • Show a persistent indicator whenever an unverified local plugin is active.

    Safety

    • Local plugins are excluded from automatic updates and identified in crash reports, keeping them separate from signed marketplace plugins.
  16. v1.0.40

    S3 and GitHub file panels

Browse cloud storage and GitHub repositories beside local files, with remote-aware previews and editors.

    Added

    • Browse Amazon S3 and S3-compatible storage as a normal file panel, including Cloudflare R2, MinIO, Wasabi, Backblaze B2 and DigitalOcean Spaces.
    • Browse GitHub repositories and source files directly from Commander.
    • Remember S3 secrets in an optional AES-GCM encrypted local store, or keep them in memory for the current session only.
    • Transfer multiple S3 objects in parallel when copying or moving files.

    Improved

    • Quick viewers and full-screen editors now work with remote and stream-backed files, including archives, PDFs, JVM classes, 3D models, text and hex data.
    • The function-key bar uses calmer theme colours so it no longer competes visually with the file panels.
