Current release v1.0.65 · what changed

Windows

64-bit (x64)
Installer .exe v1.0.60 · 126 MB
Portable .zip v1.0.60 · 148 MB

Installer

  1. Run the downloaded .exe.
  2. If SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Approve the administrator prompt - setup installs into Program Files for all users.

Portable archive

  1. Unzip the whole folder, keeping its structure.
  2. Run nuclr.exe from inside it.

Microsoft Store

  1. Open the Store page and click Get.

macOS

Apple silicon & Intel
Apple silicon .dmg v1.0.60 · 147 MB
Intel .dmg v1.0.60 · 134 MB
Intel portable .zip v1.0.60 · 133 MB

Disk image

  1. Open the .dmg.
  2. Drag Nuclr Commander onto Applications.
  3. Start it from Applications or Launchpad.

Homebrew

brew install --cask nuclrdev/tap/nuclr-commander

Commander updates itself, so brew upgrade skips it unless you add --greedy.

Portable archive

  1. Unzip the whole folder, keeping its structure.
  2. Run nuclr.command - or double-click it in Finder.
  3. The archive is not notarised, so Gatekeeper refuses the first double-click. Right-click nuclr.command → Open → Open, or allow it under System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Pick Apple silicon for M1 and later Macs, Intel for older ones.

Linux

x86-64, glibc
x86-64 .zip v1.0.60 · 152 MB
  1. Unzip the whole folder, keeping its structure.
  2. Run ./nuclr from inside it.

Commander is a desktop application: it needs a graphical session (X11 or Wayland), not a bare terminal.

What's in the archive

  • The launcher for your platform - nuclr.exe or nuclr. On macOS the same files sit inside Nuclr Commander.app.
  • nuclr.jar and its detached nuclr.jar.sig.
  • The runtime Commander needs, in jre/.
  • The bundled plugins in plugins/, each one signed.
  • README.txt, and the EULA, PRIVACY, NOTICE and THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES texts.

Verify what you downloaded

The checksums file lists SHA-256 for the four platform archives (it does not cover the installer or the jar). Compare the hash of your download against the line for that file:

Checksums .txt SHA-256, platform archives
Windows certutil -hashfile nuclr-<version>-windows-x64.zip SHA256
macOS shasum -a 256 nuclr-<version>-macos-aarch64.dmg
Linux sha256sum --ignore-missing -c nuclr-<version>-platform-archives-SHA256SUMS.txt

Updates

Commander checks for new releases in the background and stages them under your own ~/.nuclr/commander/updates directory, verifying the signature before it runs one. Turn that off under Settings → “Check for updates automatically”.

Use of Nuclr Commander is governed by the licence agreement shipped in the download (EULA) and, for this website, our website terms and privacy notice. It is supplied as is, with no warranty - and it deletes files for a living, so keep backups.
